Rwanda’s Women Sitting Volleyball team stormed to victory over a strong Egyptian team to qualify for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Rwanda will compete as the only African team next year after qualifying ahead of Algeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Burundi, Uganda at the 2015 Paravolley Africa Sitting Volleyball Championships in Kigali, Rwanda. The championships were supported by NUDOR.
In a nail bitting match, the Rwandese women managed to narrowly beat Egypt in a thrilling contest at the Petit Stade in Kigali. The final score was 24:26, 25-15 23:25, 26:24, 15:13.
Captain Lillian Mukobwankabo congratulated her side “The girls gave their best to win the game. I am happy for the good work they have done.”
She said “We are happy for this ticket. It is a pleasure for the country, for us and supporters because we have been working for this. The match was very tough for us but we managed to retain our winning spirit. This is amazing.”
“We played against Egypt for the warm up matches and they beat us but today we were determined to win. We are happy for our supporters because they gave their best,” she noted.
Unfortunately Rwanda lost to Egypt 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-13) in the men’s category and did not qualify for Rio 2016.
