Introduction
In partnership with CBM Rwanda, NUDOR is coordinating a Rwanda Women’s Sitting Volleyball project which is currently being implemented by NPC Rwanda. The Project is aiming to improve their socio- economic status through Savings and Loan borrowing in their sport clubs, increase number of women with disabilities in sport career, reach the highest level in Sitting Volleyball for women with disabilities and qualify them to the international events or Competition.
In this regards, NPC organized a local competition where 72 women with disabilities players of sitting volleyball from 6 district teams (Gasabo, Gakenke, Bugesera, Ruhango, Gicumbi and Musanze) participated in inter-district competition held at Centre de Jeunes Bugesera in Bugesera District on 6th – 7th May 2017.
Objectives of the activity
To improve the level of Sitting Volleyball sport in Rwanda and increase the skills of women players of sitting volleyball in the districts.
Specific Objectives:
• To build the capacity of District’s Sitting Volleyball players through district competitions.
• To improve the level of Sitting Volleyball players in Rwanda as well as preparation Women’s sitting volleyball teams to participate in the international events.
How Inter-District Competitions were conducted
On 6th and 7th May 2017, NPC organized the CBM Women Sitting Volleyball Competition where all 6 District Teams were present with 12 Players and 2 Coaches per each District Team (72 women Players and 12 Coaches). NPC has organized this competition because it wants to see the importance of weekend training that are being happening in their districts and assess if there are improvement or not in order to build their capacity or advises after the competition.
NPC has grouped the Teams in two groups (A,B) where the Group A was composed by Gasabo, Bugesera, Gakenke and the Group B was composed by Gicumbi, Musanze and Ruhango. On 6th May 2017, All the Teams played in their groups and the Two Teams per each group were Qualified to semi-finals.
On 7th May 2017 early morning, the Semi final started where the first match was Gicumbi vs Bugesera then Gicumbi won with 3-0 and qualified them to the final. The following match was between Gasabo and Musanze then Gasabo won with 3-0 and qualified them to Final. Bugesera and Musanze played the Classification match for the 3rd Place and Bugesera won.
The Final match played between Gicumbi vs Gasabo for the second time because last year they have played again. All the two teams are very strong and their players have improved the level of playing compare to the completion held in Musanze last year especially Gicumbi Team. Gasabo won the trophy with 3-2 sets for their second time.

Remarks for BIZIMANA Benoit, CBM Program Officer said that CBM is happy to support the empowerment of women with disabilities through sport and they will continue to mobilise fund so that women with disabilities in Rwanda can play sport and run some small Income Generating Activities for their life improvement. He also get an opportunity to award the Trophy to the first Team which Gasabo with 300,000 Frw that will help them to continues their training and improve their performance.
