From May 15, 2014 NUDOR is conducting the monitoring of the enrolment of children with disabilities in 12 years basic education (YBE) and vocational training centres (VTC). The purpose of the activity aims at collecting and information on education of children with disabilities focusing on the enrolment and drop out. The activity started in Ngororero District where two schools were visited: G.S Kavumu A in Kavumu Sector and G.S Mahembe in Sovu sector. Fourteen (14) children with disabilities are enrolled in G.S Kavumu while 10 are frequenting G.S Mahembe. The team in visits had discussions with educators, parents and the children themselves.
TWAGIRIMANA Eugene, the Advocacy and Disability Mainstreaming Officer advised the parents to always have in their mind that education is a right to every child having disability or not. In additional to that, parents should seek assistance to sector and district when they are not able to provide needed services to their children due to poverty. This shouldn’t be an excuse of maintaining their children at home.
MUSABYINGABIRE Petronile is the District Education Officer in Ngororero District. She highlighted the same message and called upon the parents to make a priority the education of their children and seek assistance to administrative organs whenever necessary.
This activity will continue in Nyaruguru, Gasabo, Gakenke and Gatsibo districts.
