This Friday 28th August 2020, the National Union of Disability Organisations in Rwanda NUDOR holds a meeting with the National Council of persons with disabilities NCPD as the Government institution in charge of persons with disabilities in Rwanda, to see how they can collaborate and work together for both on-going projects and for the future.
Opening this meeting the Executive Secretary of NUDOR Mr. NSENGIYUMVA Jean Damascène welcomed NCPD and informed them that NUDOR as a non governmental Organisation wish the joint advocacy with the governmental institutions like NCPD, and asked them partnership that can result in sustainability of good achievements done under different projects with limited time.
The Executive secretary of NCPD Mr. NDAYISABA Emmanuel thanked NUDOR for what they are doing, and reminded that as a government institution they can not satisfy all the needs of persons with disability and recommended that they need to partner with civil society organisations to achieve more in regards to persons with disabilities. He recommended again NUDOR to report best practices and cases from the projects to ensure their sustainability at the end of the projects.
During this meeting NUDOR made a presentation on the projects and partners it has today, and some results achieved by different projects that were highly appreciated by NCPD. for example after Mr. Emile VUNINGABO, The Livelihood Program coordinator presented on achievements made by Saving groups in more than 9 districts within the country, Mr Oswald TUYIZERE, a director from NCPD said he visited some of these saving groups in Ngororero and was astonished by seeing that a group of 25 people can save Millions of Rwandan Francs from the zero amount they started from. NCPD also appreciated the activity of distributing 300 post radios to learners with disability from poor families in five district as a direct response to covid-19 and many other activities done under other projects.
The National Council of Persons with Disabilities NCPD also presented what is on their program including providing more than 1200 assistive devices by this annual budget, training more than 30 persons with disability on how to develop economic projects., visiting 50 hotels with RDB that Accessibility will be among the criteria to rank these hotels by stars and 120 millions of Rwandan francs that will be distributed to cooperatives of persons with disability, restructuring categorization process.
The meeting decided to have another meeting in future where together with NCPD can share with other related institutions both governmental, private and civil society institutions the best practices and goals achieved under different projects to be like role models to these institutions. both institutions also committed to amending the MoU signed between them and do more activities together as per this signed MOU. they committed to working together for the next commemoration of Genoside against Tutsi on 27th time and they committed to working together with other organisations and institutions who support some specific persons with disabilities to share their identifications to avoid supports from different institutions to one person or family due to lack of information. they also decided that from this year they will prepare together the IDPD day to make it strong. In the future more meeting will take place between two institutions, (NUDOR and NCPD) to harmonize the collaboration and make it more powerful.
