The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) promotes and co-ordinates sports for people with disabilities. Founded in 2001, NPC is made up of associations and sport clubs with people with disabilities as members.
Developing sporting talent amongst persons with disabilities at a local level, the NPC also produces elite athletes and Paralympians that compete at international level through sports development starting at grassroots. They are currently supporting teams and individuals who have the goal of competing at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.
NPC also visits rural areas of Rwanda and encourages youth with disabilities to join active games with other children. These activities help to change community mindsets, encourage inclusion and reduce isolation amongst children with disabilities, as well as encouraging them to play more sports.
It is a member of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), of the National Olympic and Sportive Committee of Rwanda (CNOSR), member of APC (African Paralympic Committee) and WOVD (World Organisation of Volleyball for Disabled).
