Since around four years, NUDOR has been building partnership with different organizations that have contributed to the great achievements in terms for advocacy for the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities. For instance, NUDOR has been implementing a project on education in partnership with MYRIGHT, its Swedish partner organization and DPOD, its Danish sister organization.
Under that partnership, much has been done in advocating for the right to education for children with disabilities. However, much needed to be done to address the barriers that still hamper the education of the children with disabilities.
It is in this framework in partnership with DPOD and Danish Scout Association DPOD, NUDOR is implementing a project entitled ‘ Education for All’. The project is being implemented in five districts and will target five selected schools: Groupe Scolaire Burema in Nyarugenge District, Rukingu Primary School in Rusiga Sector in Rulindo District, Groupe Scolaire Ruhango Catholique in Ruhango Sector in Ruhango District, Groupe Scolaire Rwisirabo in Nyagatare District, Muramba B Primary School in Ngororero District.
In implementing the project, NUDOR intends to involve the community around the identified schools through some organizations that can influence to raise the awareness through volunteering approach.
Therefore, Rwanda Girl Guide Association has been identified as an organization that partner with NUDOR and have a key role in supporting the project via the Girl Guides volunteers.
To build a sustainable partnership, Rwanda Girl Guide Association has expressed the need of being equipped of knowledge on disability concept and inclusion in general during the meeting held at Rwanda Girl Guide Association national office on June 01, 2016. To concertize that wish, NUDOR organized three days training on disability rights and inclusion that brouught together the representatives and key staff from Rwanda Girl Guide Association.
Overall Goal of the training
The overall goal of the training on disability and inclusion was to strengthen the capacity of Rwanda Girl Guide Association representatives and key staff as working for human rights organization and institutions to undertake disability rights education efforts through training, awareness campaigns, information dissemination and advocacy aiming at building a global culture of inclusion.
It is why NUDOR organized 3 days training (from 25th to 27th September 2018)on Disability rights and inclusion, after the training, the following are the achievements and commitments from participants:
Achievements and Commitments.
- AGR representatives are aware on disability key concepts and apply them appropriately,
- AGR representatives are understand a framework based on internationally and nationally accepted disability rights standards and principles to analyze the issues and situations encountered in the work of their organizations
- Identified the ways in which disability rights education can increase the effectiveness and impact of Rwanda Girl Guide Association work
- They determined strategies for promoting disability equality in Rwanda Girl Guide Association work
- They designed concrete actions to practice the gained knowledge
